After taking part in my classmate, Daryl Robertsons, questionnaire, I have questioned my approach of trying to keep my subjects in the dark about the nature of my project recordings. I was doing this as I felt that telling people that one of the tracks they were hearing was recorded live would force them to assume which one the live one was.
After discussing Daryls listening tests with him, it became apparent that even although people were aware of what he had specifically done for the practical part of his project, people were still unable to determine which version was which, and still gave honest answers to his question.
I have now decided to create 2 versions of the questionnaire, one which explains my project in full and one which does not. I will then ask a select group of my peers, who are familiar with my project, to proof read my questionnaires and determine which one they feel is better suited to my research.
The following is an example of the latter version of my questionnaire, where my project is not completely explained.
This project aims to determine how peoples perceptions of a song are altered by the use of different recording techniques.
In order to do this, it will be necessary for you to listen to two versions of the same song, simply labelled A and B.
